Why Sleep Matters

This word document is a summary of findings from the National Sleep Foundation regarding the effects of sleep deprivation. It's not hard to see the relationships between sleep deprivation and narcolepsy, and to recognize many of the results as all too familiar for those of us with narcolepsy.

The National Sleep Foundation have "Sleep Topics" that discuss various aspects of why sleep is important, what effects too little sleep can have, the stages of sleep, and their characteristics.

Other "Sleep Topics" discuss women's health and sleep, and how the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause interact with sleep need.
